5 Healthy Habits to Implement in 2017 + Recipe!

I’ve mentioned in previous posts how I’ve put on (more than) a few pounds since the baby. What I haven’t talked much about is what I intend to do about it. Welp, this year will be different. I’m really taking charge and creating new healthy habits in 2017! Here’s what I’ve got up my sleeve.

Get Organized

Healthy Habits in 2017 to-do list

Scheduling apps are great, but I need my pen and paper! Writing out tasks helps them stay in mind. Crossing them off as they’re done gives a sense of accomplishment. Realistically, just crossing off even one item is a win! So I don’t stress if I can’t tackle everything.

Sticking to a schedule while mommying a toddler can be tough, but just “winging it” won’t do either. The chances of things getting done are greater when I take time to write them down! If I’m gonna get my pre-baby body back — and I will — getting organized with a schedule that includes exercise is a must.

De-Stress

Now that my son has gotten into something of a routine, I can start scheduling some me time while he takes a nap. I may use it to take soothing bath, catch up on a good show or take a walk. Taking time for myself can do wonders for keeping me in a positive frame of mind and in a better position mentally to tackle the day. Can’t forget about your mental and emotional health, ladies!

Get Moving

I intend to make getting back in shape in 2017 fun! So, besides using workout videos to help me shed the weight, I’ll be taking more brisk walks with the baby. I think I’ll even venture into the playgrounds for a little workout in the form of a good game of chase. Being more active and not confined to my couch is the goal! The Vitamin D will do me some good and these old-ish bones will get some exercise. Every little bit helps on a way to a healthier me!

Drink More Water

I talk so much about how important water is for hair health but it’s so good for your overall health! It purifies your insides to help everything work properly which beautifies the outside. And when I drink more water, I just feel good!

Drinking water in the summer is easy but it’s always a challenge for me during the cooler months. If drinking water is a challenge for you, try this suggestion from a friend that had worked for me: challenge yourself to drink only one non-water beverage every day. Before you know it, you’ll be craving water more than the other stuff!

Make Healthier Food Choices

Much like drinking water, eating healthy actually takes effort… at least for me. I had gotten used to eating just about anything and not gaining a (noticeable) pound for twenty-something years. By my mid-twenties, it all caught up to me. One thing I’ve come to learn in my thirty-something years is that eating in moderation is essential. Another simple but very important key to eating healthy is keeping healthy food in the home.
