When you become a mom while leading an already somewhat busy life, your day becomes an overworked PC with about 18 tabs open at once. So much to take care of with seemingly not a whole lot of time! That means, when it comes to our own wellness, we have to MAKE time.

We spend so much of our day making sure our family is taken care of that we can forget to make ‘me time’ a part of our routine. But if we don’t take care of ourselves, what good are we to anyone else?! When you’re feeling good, you’re in a better position to care for others. So, what are some things you can do to carve out me time and care for you?

Take a Walk

Carve Out Mommy Me Time 1 If you’re able to leave the kids with the hubby or a friend for a couple hours, do it! Take advantage of all those babysitting offers you got when you were pregnant and take yourself outside for some fresh air. If you’re anything like me, you might very well get used just being in the house all day, taking care of home and the family. But the Vitamin D will do you some good and just getting out for a bit will do wonders for your mood and overall wellness!

Watch Your Favorite Show or Movie

When Bubble Guppies finally goes of and my son heads to his room for a nap, mommy can finally watch somethings SHE likes! I like to grab a snack and plop on the couch to watch something lighthearted and fun, which, for me, usually means just about any sitcom from the 80s or 90s since they’re guaranteed to make me chuckle. They say laughter is the best medicine and self care for me means releasing those endorphins so I make sure I do plenty of it!

Pamper Yourself

As moms, we’re happy to get 5 minutes to take a quick shower, but why not to indulge in some me time with a simple bubble bath or a nice, long shower? Afterwards, massage your skin with a nourishing lotion.

Read a Good Magazine

Maybe, like me, you’re not much of a book reader or maybe you just wanna keep things light. Get your favorite magazine, find a corner and flip through. It’s nice way to just escape your busy life for a few moments to catch up on the latest fashion trends or hair styles. Pop one in your purse so you can scan the pages during a train commute or while you wait at the doctor’s office. Any little moment you can take that doesn’t involve thinking about ‘adulting’, use it. Self care, people!

Get Together with The Girls

Having me time doesn’t always have to mean doing things by yourself. Sometimes you just need a break from the everyday, a change of scene. Text a girlfriend or two and see if you can meet for a quick bite! Nourish your body AND your mind with good food and good adult conversation. It’ll be nice little break from discussing the latest adventures of Thomas & Friends!

These are just a few of the things I do to make sure I have some mommy me time so I can refresh myself and be a better mom and wife. What are some things you do when it comes to self care?
