On February 16th, Dark and Lovely celebrated the kick-off of its 45th Anniversary with a commemorative event in New York City. Here’s what went down!
natural hair event
The Healthy Hair & Beauty Affair II was my second ToBNatural event and I’m so excited to share this footage with you! Mane Moves TV was there to capture some highlights and interviews with attendees and special guests.
On July 12th, for the second year in a row, online natural hair magazine Natural Hollywood and natural hair salon Sabine’s Hallway bring The Natural Aristocratic Tea to Brooklyn!
White Plains, NY has been named an official host city for this year’s International Natural Hair Meetup Day aka INHMD on May 30th and will be presented by EMBRACE!
Six months later and almost a year to the date of the first one, I bring you a recap of The Healthy Hair & Beauty Affair II! Shame on me, right? LOL! Ugh. This has been sitting in my drafts all this time. Crazy. Anywho… let’s get on with it! Word on the street is The (SOLD OUT!) Healthy Hair & Beauty Affair II held at The DUMBO Loft was awesome! There were nothing but positive comments from the attendees as well as the special guests AND vendors. WOW! I am so… SO excited that everyone who came out to support had a great time and left feeling inspired and informed. Joining me once again were Chef Keaton with his tasty hors d’oeuvres and DJ Rich Nice to keep things bumping. Photographer Jason John of Xcallibur Photo rounded out our “family reunion”, this time armed with an assistant to capture all the happenings. I set out to make this event bigger and better than the first: larger venue, more special guests, a wide array of vendors and, yes, more coverage… we had Mane Moves TV in the house for video coverage and interviews! Thanks to our title sponsors– Alikay Naturals, EDEN BodyWorks & CURLS- who provided full-sized products plus a gang of other amazing brands, ticket-holders received a hefty swag bag filled to capacity! The afternoon kicked off with “One Time For the Naturals”, an original piece by spoken word artist and author Joekenneth Museau, written just for the event! After giving a shout out to our generous sponsors, I turned the stage over to Tameeka McNeil Johnson aka The Curl Whisperer. Tameeka’s Transformation Workshop was a big hit as she demonstrated a ‘wash and go’ styling technique while answering numerous natural hair questions from the audience. Her wealth of knowledge was evident…
Another natural hair event is upon ladies (and gents)! On December 13, 2014, Niyya Tenee of Locs Revolution brings us Loc’d & Loosed: A Celebration of Natural Hair Unity. Whether you’re male or female, rock locs or loose kinks and curls, this one’s for you! This amazing event will feature vendors, discussion panels with vloggers and bloggers, a live DJ and more! Get your tickets here today! xoxo Toia B.
CALLING ALL PRODUCT JUNKIES! Here’s another event to add to your list of places to go this Fall! Un’ruly invites you to start the season off fresh by coming out THIS SUNDAY, Oct. 12th, to The Polish Bar Brooklyn for an evening of product swappage to help you clear out your cabinets, medicine chests and dresser tops. Get rid of those products that did nothing for you and hope to grab some that just might work. Interact with other naturals and chat with our host, beauty blogger Ty Alexander of Gorgeous in Grey! The event is FREE but if you plan to attend, go here to read more about how it all works and let ’em know you’ll be in the house! Look forward to seeing you there! xoxo Toia B.
Hey all my Philly Naturals! Haute Kinky Hair is making moves along with my girl Ijeoma of Klassy Kinks as they hit their second stop on the Protect Your Style Brunch Tour. I had the privilege of shooting the premier brunch here in NYC and it was nothing short of a klassy event. You Philly gals will get your turn on August 16th at Supper on South Street. Mingle, eat, win prizes and soak in some hair care education and inspiration while you’re at it! Get your tickets here! xoxo Toia B.
I announced this in a previous post back in April but a lil reminder doesn’t hurt… THE natural hair event of all natural hair events comes to the Times Square Marriott Marquis in NYC on July 19th & 20th! Can I get a “wooot wooooot”?! Normally a jam-packed weekend of activity in Atlanta, GA, The World Natural Health & Beauty Expo aka The World Natural Hair Show (#WNHS) is coming to our neck o’ the woods and we #NYCnaturals couldn’t be more excited. I so wanted to fly down to ATL for the festivities this year but, real talk… #TimesIsHard! HA! So when I found out Taliah Waajid was gonna show us some love in the northeast, I definitely did a little dance! Tickets have been on sale for some time but if you haven’t gotten yours yet, you can still do so at newyorknaturalexpo.com where you’ll also find tons of info on the various events and workshops on deck so you can plan out your weekend. You’ll wanna get your tickets in advance because they’ll be five bucks more at the door! BUT WAIT! Fellow blogger Mo of CurlsAndMo.com has coupon codes for you! *does cabbage patch* Save $2 on your one-day pass with code CURLSMO or $4 on your 2 day pass with code CURLNYC. Thanks Mo! If all goes as planned (translation: get the day off…!!!), I’ll be assisting a friend at a booth on Saturday. I’ll fill you all in on our whereabouts, etc. as we get closer so you can stop by and say hello! 😉 Hope to see you there! xoxo Toia B.
