NYC winters can get weird. If the same is true where you live and you’re not quite sure what to wear from day-to-day, here’s a little inspiration and a few tips for dressing during fickle and transitional weather!
Fall has been around for all of a week and already, I’ve seen folks walking around with full-on cold weather wear. Well, you can’t get me to put my summer pieces away that quickly! Here’s how I easily transition them into the fall.
Last week, I made my way over to EDEN BodyWorks’ #StyleWithEDEN NYFW presentation which blended style and beauty. Naturally, I wanted to show off my personal style too! Here’s what I came up with… after about five outfit changes.
NYC summers are no joke! But the main thing I love about the season is that I get to break out all my favorite pieces of clothing! All winter long, I look forward to pulling out my cute and colorful summer dresses and skirts. But THIS?! This is by far my absolute FAVORITE summer dress!
Who doesn’t wanna look good for a photo shoot? At nine months pregnant, though, assembling a cute yet comfy maternity shoot outfit can be challenging. Peep what I did for my session with Danni of DFinney Photography!
We took a little trip to Connecticut a couple Saturdays ago to surprise our friend, a mom-to-be, at Beardsley Park in Bridgeport. It can be risky to plan an outdoor gathering but the weather definitely cooperated during this baby shower. It was a GORGEOUS day! It was also HOT so I opted for this lightweight, blue floral skirt that I bought from the same thrift store as this one for a mere four bucks. Having recently gone through my large collection of tees, I remembered that I might have one that would go perfectly with it. I was right. Skirt – Brooklyn Industries (thrifted) | Sandals – Target | Tee – Dr. Jays | Shades – Steve Madden (Daffy’s) Despite the heat, I felt pretty comfy in this getup and thoroughly appreciated that the skirt is lined with cotton… sweet! I had no idea how I’d wear it when I took it off the rack but this summer has given me some beautiful opportunities to put it to good use! xoxo Toia B.
Thursday. It was such a beautiful day. I felt like taking a walk… so we did. Gotta love the hubster! We took a leisurely stroll down Flatbush Avenue, walking along Prospect Park. We noticed the fountain at Grand Army Plaza was on for the summer so, instead of walking around, we walked right on through and took in all its beauty. These moments are so necessary. After a few pics and some video, we kept right on walking. Once we hit Park Slope, Seventh Ave to be exact, hubs had a hankering for a smoothie and quickly Googled the nearest shop. And so began our walk over to Fifth Ave to Brooklyn Crepe and Juice where we both enjoyed 24 ounces of mango/peach/strawberry deliciousness. It was a hot one so it really hit the spot! There’s nothing like fresh ingredients. So refreshing. I don’t normally wear these two pieces together. I’d usually do a “safe” white tee or tank with this skirt but they were all in the hamper and I needed to throw on something quickly. This meant pieces that required little to no ironing. Score! Sleevless top: TopShop (Similar) | Skirt: H&M (Similar here & here) | Sandals: Target (Similar)|Purse: JustFab (Similar from Forever 21) | Hair: Puff 😉 I am so happy and thankful for these peaceful moments I get to share with my husband. With us both working part-time (him, overnight), we’re able to spend some quality time together a number of times a week. We hardly plan. Most of our outings are spur of the moment… and I LOVE it! One more quick shot on the way back… What’s your favorite thing to do in the summer on your ‘down time’? Read in the park? Go for a drive? Head to the beach? Share below! xoxo Toia B.…
This coral maxi skirt is my top summer staple! It nicely covers all the “problem” areas I’m working with as I deal with my post-baby body and it keeps me super cool when it’s a blazing 93 DEGREES! Eeek! Here’s how I rocked it on this scorcher of a day.
If you’ve been preggers, you know how much energy you DON’T have for the normal, everyday stuff. This being the case, I decided to do a quick, simple rolled bun for my maternity photo shoot which was inspired by v/blogger Cassandre Beccai.
February was a crazy busy month with event after exciting event! Between New York Fashion Week, launch parties and soirées, I was definitely a girl on the move and wanted to look good doing it! Take a look at my eclectic style as I made my way around the city… This whirlwind of a month started with the Optimum Amla Legend Media Launch event with special guest Tracee Ellis Ross. I opted for a retro look complete with an almost completely shrunken ‘fro and vintage secretary blouse. To kick off NYFW, I stopped by the Required Flare Trunk Show for which I donned a rather preppy ensemble and a stretched-out fro. Get outfit deets and see how you can get the look here! That Saturday was the Know Your Roots event at Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem. Here’s an example of perking up your basics! I kept it vanilla with the outfit but brought the drama with a statement necklace, bold Ankara headwrap and coral purse. With plenty of snow still on the ground, I struck a balance between fashion and function with my H&M boots- they’ve got good traction on the bottom, are knee-high for added warmth and cute at the same time. The following Monday was the Edwing D’Angelo runway show where I was invited to cover the beauty prep backstage. Not expecting to stick around for the show itself, I went for simple comfort but still wanted to put a little effort into my look. I’ve been on a mission, recently, to explore my closet and pull out pieces I don’t wear often to create some variety. This has surely spawned some fun and unlikely combos… like this one! I chose bright colors, muting them with neutrals- it totally worked. With my hair still undone, I grabbed one of my trusty…
