Wedding Wear: The $1 Thrifted Vintage Floral Dress

Vintage-Floral-Dress-Main

Two Sundays ago, hubby and I attended a wedding at a beautiful venue right here in Brooklyn. With events like these, there’s usually the dilemma of ‘what to wear’. Thankfully, I wasn’t too stressed about it this time around. I had a one dollar, vintage, floral dress ready to go!

A Little Background

As a SAHM, I’m by no means ballin’ (do people still say that?) so I have to watch my coins carefully and, sometimes that means just making do with what I have.

Welp, last year or so, my sister put me on to this thrift shop in our neighborhood – like a ten minute walk – but it would be a good while before I’d actually walk in.

Man, was I happy when I finally did! It was huuuuge, neat, organized and the prices?! Pssshhh… Right up my alley! Totally didn’t compare to any other thrift shop I’ve been to … all two of them. HA!

Over the past year, I’ve racked up on skirts, blouses and scored this cute dress… all needed since I’ve yet to lose this baby weight and not much of what I own fits. My sister picked up a number of dresses on one of her trips and THIS, my friends, is how I ended up with this piece of loveliness.

This vintage floral dress was only one dollar!

I tried it on and it was perfect! I didn’t need to do a thing with it. It didn’t even need ironing! Wooooot!

Here’s the other time I wore something thrifted to a wedding!

The design is super old school which I LOVE. I tend to gravitate more to A-line silhouettes because I have some… junk in the trunk, as they say. 😛 Plus, I just find these shapes to be so lady-like and modest- your female frame is highlighted while leaving things to the imagination.

The dress had been hanging in my closet for months so when we received the wedding invite, I wasn’t worried.

The Deets

My faux pearl jewelry just seemed to naturally fit the whole vintage vibe of the dress. DO keep some pearls in your jewelry box! The faux suede peep-toes, which I’ve owned for years, were just the right color AND perfect heel height for when the dancing commenced at the reception. Of course, I brought some backup flats. 😉

I wish I took more pics buuutt we were having too much fun and stuffing our faces so this is all ya get! LOL!

So, how’d I do? Not too shabby for one dollar, huh?!

Oh, yeah… the spot. It’s a place called Le Pointe Value. There are a number of locations throughout NY. You’re welcome!

Are you a thrifter? Where do you go to find your deals and steals?

I used to stay in a thrift shop and then my daughter got older and can’t hang or is all over the place. Sometimes I like to sneak away on Sunday mornings. The pearls totally set off the look of the dress. You can’t beat that for $1.

Oh yes, I slip away only when hubby is home so I can be baby-free. He has daddy time and I get a lil me time. Thankfully, this thrift shop is a short walk from home so I can browse without the guilt of taking too long.

My set of faux pearls is probably the best accessory I have. They always come through in the clutch!
