Natural Fashionista: Cynthia

How I first came across THIS fashionista, I couldn’t even tell you. All I know is… she’s wussup! She is a beautiful, Cameroon-born attorney who currently resides in Queens, NY, cooking things up on her popular fashion and lifestyle blog Simply Cyn. While the site offers a wide range of her favorite things- food, photography, travel- there is no doubt that she has a penchant for all things fashionable.

Meet Cynthia.

How long have you been wearing your hair in its natural state and what made you take that step?

I never really kept count , cos I transitioned. But I think I’m in the 4 year range about now. My hair relaxed was very weak, breaking and falling. I just wanted my hair to be stronger and healthier.

What do you love most about having natural hair? What challenges have you faced along the way?

I love its versatility. I think natural hair also suits me much better.  It’s still tough at times- you have good hair days and bad hair days. I can’t really say it’s been a challenge … Just the frustration that comes around with hair – being lazy, trying to take shortcuts that end up messing up your hair. I try not to take it too much to heart.

Tell us about your weekly hair routine.

It’s often late Friday or early Saturday: Wash, condition, twist. (2 hours).  There’s so much more I’d love to do like clay, henna, hair masks but to be honest I usually can’t find the time.

For some women, their sense of style changes when they return to natural. Do you find this to be true in your case or do you feel your style has been pretty consistent throughout the years?

I think my style has changed more as a result of me getting older, more comfortable in my skin, and exposure to great style on social media etc. I’m sure my hair has had some effect but I think it’s a lot of other things as well.

SimplyCynYellowSimplyCynBobDylanHow would you describe your personal style? Is there anyone who inspires you?

Laid back chic- I don’t like to sweat it too much and I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter how cute the look is, if u’re uncomfortable you won’t look good or feel good.

Too many- I’ll just say the women on the street of NYC. The ones I see walking around TriBeCa, Fort Greene, K-town…

What are your favorite fashion trends, past or present? What trends are you completely over?

I like gladiator sandals and anything tribal. I don’t think I’m over any trends- that’s because I really wasn’t ever under any of them. Just kidding. I can’t think of anything that’s really irritated me- I say be free to rock anything- trendy or not. It’s really about how you put it together.

You’re going on a last minute trip and can only bring one item of clothing along. What would that be?

Unless it’s a super hot location, a pair of skinny jeans.

We know you’re “addicted to etsy” 🙂 but where else might we find you shopping?

Zara, H&M, ASOS, Club Monaco
