in·spi·ra·tion [noun] \ˌin(t)-spə-ˈrā-shən, -(ˌ)spi-\:
something that makes someone want to do something or that gives someone an idea about what to do or create
When it comes to fashion, what we create upon being inspired by a look we love does not always have to be literal. We can simply take note of color match-ups, texture and pattern play, etc. to come up with our own version.
Take this fab yet simple and casual outfit on Folake of Style Pantry for example. We can see clearly that tan (or cognac) looks great against blues, especially the dark denim. Do you always have to match your belt with your shoes? No. But the matching belt here works to break up the stripe-to-solid transition and pulls in the color of the footwear for a clean look and some awesome coordination action.
Gap striped sweater / H M top / American Eagle Outfitters skinny leg jeans / Nine west knee high boots / Forever 21 faux leather handbag / H M short necklace / Forever 21 gold jewelry / Forever 21 woven belt / Mineral make up
Now, what if you don’t own a vertical striped button-down? I’ve included the option of a horizontal striped sweater (it’s cold over here y’all… Folake lives in Cali! O_O) of the same general color scheme which can be worn alone to complete the outfit or layered atop a white button-down that you may very well own, whatever you wanna do. Work with what you have. You may not own either option but at least you know what colors work and you can go from there. A light bulb may go off in your brain that you have something similar in your closet that may give you a nice, “close enough” look.
We don’t expect our readers to run out and purchase every piece of an outfit (unless, of course, you’re ballin’ and can do that sort of thing! LOL) but we are simply giving you something to go on, ideas. 😉
