Hair Tip Tuesday: Scalp Massages to Promote Healthy Hair Growth

Have you incorporated scalp massages in your hair care regimen? I’ll admit, I always start out strong and then fall off at some point but I’m making a concerted effort to be regular for best results.

Why Scalp Massages Work

It’s rather simple: massaging the scalp with the pads of your fingers improves blood flow and circulation to the scalp. This increased blood flow helps carry essential nutrients and oxygen to the hair follicles which (TADA!!) stimulates growth. Pretty cool, I think.

Scalp massages also have emotional and overall health benefits, helping you to relaxing and de-stress… much like a good ole back rub or spa massage.

How To Do It

Use your carrier oil of choice (Coconut Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, etc.). Apply to your fingers or directly on the scalp- you don’t need a whole lot. Using just the pads or tips of your fingers, massage your scalp using small circular motions. Once you’ve gotten around your entire head, go back and give special attention to any known “problem areas”. Add more oil to your fingers as needed.

Adding a few drops of your favorite growth-stimulating essential oils can improve the effectiveness of your massages! My faves are tea tree, peppermint, lavender and rosemary. You can find these at your local health food stores.

Massaging your scalp daily for about five minutes per day should do wonders to improve your scalp’s health and promote growth.

REMEMBER: the key to any part of your regimen is consistency. So let’s keep at it for optimal results! I challenge you (and myself!) to do this for a month, tracking our progress as we go. Are you up for it? 😉

Have you already been doing scalp massages? What do you use and what have been your results?
