Hair Tip Tuesday: Massage When Washing Your Mane

massage when washing main

Like me, you might have had one of those overdue wash days where there is this one spot that’s got the sweetest itch and you can’t WAIT to dip your head under some water and attack it! Oooh a good 30 second scratch will spell relief! But did you know that that sort of thing can actually damage your scalp?

Hair Tip Tues massage when washing

I have definitely been guilty of diving into my strands nails-first, scrubbing away in an attempt to get my hair and scalp super clean, itching or not. But I’ve come to learn that doing so can mean disaster in the long run.

As mentioned in a previous Hair Tip Tuesday post, because your hair grows from your scalp, it’s just as important to make sure it’s as healthy as possible. Washing incorrectly can compromise this.

Scrubbing or scratching with your fingernails can cause abrasions on the scalp and actually damage the hair follicles. Any products applied after having scratched the life out of your scalp can have an adverse effect on the now open and sensitive skin.

Instead, be gentle and pamper yourself with a soothing massage when washing your hair, using just the pads of your fingertips to remove any dirt or buildup. Not only is it relaxing but the massage stimulates blood flow to the scalp which, in turn, promotes growth. Oh, the benefits! 😉

Do YOU find yourself scrubbing your scalp like a mad person on wash day?
