Hair Tip Tuesday: Hair Steaming on a Budget

Happy Tuesday!

Here’s the post that didn’t make it to the blog last week due to some technical difficulties! If you follow me on IG, you’ve already caught this lil tidbit. πŸ˜‰

Hair Tip Tues 01-07-14

Last month I raved about my new favorite hair tool, the Q-Redew handheld hair steamer. However, I understand that in these times, even with a discount, some still may not have the budget to purchase one at the moment. That does not mean you’re without hope!

Why Steam Anyway?

Steaming is so effective in a one’s hair care routine because it provides just the right amount of moisture and hydration to the hair to soften it and make it easier to manage without completely rewetting it. It can be done to give you volume, revive that wash & go or give you a little moisture to re-twist your hair for a fresh do without starting from scratch. When you deep condition your hair, steaming will open up the hair’s cuticle layer to allow that goodness to penetrate even deeper meaning extra moisture for you!

Hair Steaming on A Budget- How?

When you are ready to deep condition your hair or even at the pre-poo level, you can do the plastic cap + hot towel trick: Cover your hair with a basic plastic cap. Get your towel, soak it in water and zap it in the microwave until it’s hot but not TOO hot… maybe about 2-3 minutes or so. If the towel is dripping wet, wring some of the water out, wrap it around your plastic cap then place a plastic bag over the towel. This will help keep that heat in. You can take it a step further by sitting a hooded dryer for about 20 min to keep the heat going or simply re-wet and reheat the towel.

Simpler options? Place a plastic cap over your wet hair and sit under the dryer for 20 minutes (probably the most popular) or simply shower without a cap on and allow the free steam to give your hair the moisture it needs.

We understand, times are tough. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still get some great hair care while on a tight budget.

Let’s talk: What are some things YOU have incorporated into your hair care routine to save money? Tell us below!

          Hi!

You can try this hooded steamer on Amazon (http://amzn.to/2c875v8) but I am also a huge fan of the Q-Redew handheld steamer. There’s a link to it on the right side of this page. Hope that helps!
