Choosing the Right Dress for My Shape

Happy Friday y’all.

*le sigh*

The dress that I ordered for my cousin’s wedding arrived on Tuesday. Welp, I tried it on…

I was hopeful but as I kinda expected, it just didn’t work. My body is… special. While I have a very small top area, the bottom half is a completely different story. That being the case, I need to buy a size big enough to compensate for the thighs and “junk in the trunk”. (LOL!)

Well, you may not be able to tell much from my pic (it was the best I could do at the time) but it was too tight, a lot shorter than I expected and honestly, the overall cut of the dress was just all wrong for me! Even if I exchanged it for a size up, I’d have a large chunk to take in at the top (nothing my mom couldn’t handle) and I’d still have an issue with the length. But the main thing is, this type of dress just isn’t for me.

This taught me a valuable lesson: stick to what ya know!

Now THIS is what I’m talkin’ about! With my small frame up top and *ahem* bountiful lower half, I can never go wrong with an A-line dress. I wore the sea green version of the H&M dress below to a wedding a few years back. The fit is amazing! All I needed was about a half of an inch taken in on either side just under the arms and it was PERFECTION. Best. Dress. Ever!

When it comes to figuring out what to wear, it’s not always about what’s on-trend or simply what we think looks pretty. Not everything will look great on everyone. We all come in different shapes and sizes so it’s important to know what works with our body type and go with that! If there’s one thing I can’t stand it’s someone wearing something they have no business wearing. #jussayin LOL!

Needless to say, it’s back to the drawing board for me! I’ve gotten a few leads on where to look for a cute, affordable A-line dress so I’ll update you guys on my findings. Make sure you’re following me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter as well y’all! 😉

Bye for now.

xoxo

maybe you can get it tailored…possibly have the bottom penciled on it doesn’t flare…I think a penciled bottom would great on you!

Gurrrrl! The dress is just WRONG! LOL I can only do certain pencil skirts. TRUST ME… I have WAY more “junk” than people think! I just mask it well. Ha! It would still be too tight. There isn’t enough fabric in this to let out and where the waist hits is not for me and my proportions. Plus I sent it back the next day 😉

Yes, I plan to post the dress I end up with for sure! My hair is simply a 2-day old loose flat twist-out done on a blow-out. That’s it. It was basically just a chunky fro by then. I’ll be posting more on that soon.
