A few days into October, we were hit with a good week of temps in the neighborhood of 80 degrees. Sure, fall showed up (wearing sweats and long socks as I type)… but, here we are in the middle of October and we’re about to have a string of 70-something degree weather.
In honor of this see-saw-ish, in-between October, here’s one of my favorite outfits to date that I wore during NYFW. It struck the perfect balance between “it’s hot out here” and “it’s September, though”! But my favorite part is the funkyness of the cargo vest and mixed prints, as subtle as it may be.
With vests, the first thought may be that it should be worn over something with sleeves. Not so. Wearing it over a tube top like mine, a sleeveless tee or maxi dress makes it an unexpected yet fashion-forward way to layer up but still stay cool in the summer months.
When fall hits, just add a long-sleeve tee or button down to stick to the style while keeping your arms warm. Plus, not sure if you noticed but, there’s a hood! So you, my friends, are fall-ready.
The edginess of the vest made this ensemble fashion show worthy while keeping me cool in the 70 + streets. Folded-up jeans to show a little skin paired with olive (a quintessential color for fall) ankle booties give you transitional weather realness. I definitely ditch the jean folds come sweater weather or at least fold once cuz… it’s my “thing”.
What’s NOT really my thing (yet) is mixing prints… especially not three. Who IS this person?!
If you’re new to mixing prints or nervous about trying, ease into it like I did. I played it fairly safe with two beautiful prints in the accessories – so they’re not so close together – and the third, navy and white stripes (also worn here), being more on the neutral side. The color of the vest pulls it all together so it’s not so in-your-face. I just love how it all turned out!
